World Wetlands Day
A series of events will be organized on Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the popular resort town of Bodrum to mark World Wetlands Day.
The program to be held at the in Bodrum Municipality Meeting and Gallery room starts at 1 p.m. with a press conference and the opening of an exhibition.
A panel discussion will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the importance and preservation of the wetlands. The World Wetlands Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands on Feb. 2, 1971, in the Iranian Caspian city of Ramsar.
The day was celebrated for the first time in 1997. Each year, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and citizens’ groups take advantage of the opportunity to undertake actions aimed at raising public awareness of the values of wetlands, their benefits in general and the Ramsar Convention in particular.
The speakers include Hediye Gündüz of the Turkish Association for the Protection of Nature, Berna Babaoğlu Ulutaş from the Dalyan Tourism, Culture and Environment Protection Association and Hülya Yolcubal, a representative of the Muğla Chamber of Landscape Architects to the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects
